One Good Catholic School Transcending

Wednesday, January 22nd, 2014

Late in the evening of 1/21/14 I joined parishioners and supporters of Our Lady of Victory Catholic School in Chicago, for which I serve on the board, for part of an overnight prayer vigil to preserve the school. For this purpose the school gym had been converted temporarily into an all-night meditation chapel.

OLV School awaits word on or about 1/24/14 whether the Archdiocese of Chicago will approve OLV’s three-year financial plan so OLV can remain open.

Working with the OLV community has been an inspiring movement and moment of grace–a remarkable combination of prayer, good will, fundraising, and networking!

The peacefulness of the OLV vigil transcended for me the contemporaneous 1/21/14 release of the Chicago priest abuse files.

I sometimes think that Christ foresaw such abuse in his Agony in the Garden, and still chose to suffer and to die for us so that we could be redeemed from such miserable sin.
